Chickens for Kimaru

Εls van Driel (1976) studied art history and social-cultural theology at the University of Amsterdam. She worked for almost 13 years for the Dutch Ecumenical Broadcasting company IKON television where she learned the skills and crafts of television- and documentary making. At IKON she initiated the award winning youth documentary series ‘Just Kids’, a series about children’s rights, which is broadcast in several countries around Europe on television and is shown at film festivals around the globe. Eriss Khajira (1987) was born and raised in the Dandora Slum, next to the Dandora dumpsite in Nairobi, Kenya. At the age of eleven she first saw a documentary film on TV. A dream was born: she started to record small videos with a mobile phone. Later on she got a job at the Nairobi Community Media House as a reporter for African Slum Journal. She worked her way up to the position of Chief Editor. In the beginning of 2016 she started her own Media House called: The Big 5 Media Centre. The objective is to educate children and youth (8-14 years) living the Nairobi slums.
