Silent film can… talk!

Eleni Golfinopoulou

ages: 5th and 6th grade

duration: 2 meetings two hours each

This workshop is divided in two parts: The first part aims to familiarise participants with silent film and with the sounds produced by everyday objects (foley), while in the second part participants will be called to dub a small excerpt from a silent film with sound. Participants are called to create all sounds of the excerpt (e.g., footsteps, breathing, surrounding noises, creaking) using their bodies and various objects/small musical instruments, in order to give the film “a voice”. Aim of the workshop is to allow participants to get acquainted with the sound design of a film, as well as with the process of foley dubbing.
