We are very glad to announce to the friends of Olympia Festival and Camera Zizanio some great news. On Tuesday February 6, 2018, the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras expressed the official support of the Greek state to Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People. In his speech at the Conference for the Development of Western Greece he described the Festival as an institution that “has an impressive success and international recognition” and announced the financing of a new permanent home for all festival activities with 8 million euros from the state budget.
The permanent home of the Festival and Camera Zizanio will be created in the buildings of the old ASO Raisin Factory in Pyrgos, which are offered by the Region of Western Greece. The funds will be used to renovate the building, create the necessary infrastructure and acquire equipment.
The utilization of the ASO buildings, which have been abandoned for years, was requested long ago by the Festival. The project being planned is a multiple use space for culture, which will include screening venues, exhibition spaces, a film set and animation studio, recording studios, editing rooms, book and film library, workshop spaces etc.
The new complex will be open to all culture groups in town, to young artists and other youth activities. Young people will now have high quality infrastructure to showcase their work. It will also be a home for the European Center of Youth Audiovisual Creation. The Center will be active around the year offering educational programs for students, teachers and postgraduates from Greece and abroad. It will have the necessary equipment for the production of high profile cinema and audiovisual works.
