The Olympia Film Festival refuses to resign and continues it’s offer to the Youth
(“Lessons in the Dark” all over Greece)
The Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People, despite the enormous economic problems, refuses to resign from the fight to offer to the youth of our country.
Within this gray atmosphere of economic crisis, the dramatic fall in living standards of people, reaching even to the malnutrition of some children (and yes this happens in an EU country), unemployment, padlocks in stores , the lack of prospects for young people, the Olympia Festival by organizing dozens of events throughout the country, sends a message of resistance and optimism.
Since early 2012, we responded to numerous calls from students, teachers’ associations, parents associations and other social actors and organized screenings and qualitative analyzes of children’s and youth films, we conducted film workshops, encouraged groups of children to write their own scripts and shooting their own films.
Our program, known under the title “Lessons in the dark”, traveled throughout the country. From Mani to Chalkidiki and from Zakynthos to Lemnos, with intermediate stations like Rhodes, Samos, Ioannina, Konitsa, Preveza, etc. Even in “forgotten” islands, like Ai Stratis –with only 20 children, arrived our partners to offer gratis qualitative events and movies.
Many events were not confined within the schools but were open to all citizens who participated eagerly. The dozens of thank-you messages that arrive in our office, show the need that exists in this difficult time for such events.
