The cyanotype workshop invites children to discover the creation of photographic images without the use of a darkroom. Using light-sensitive paper, children place natural and other materials (such as leaves, feathers, gelatin) in a composition exposed to sunlight.
During the exposure, areas exposed to light gradually acquire a blue tint, while areas in the shade remain white. By rinsing in water and stabilizing with xenon water, the work is completed as the children learn the history of cyanotype and its contribution to the development of photography and, later, film. The workshop encourages composition and creative thinking through interaction with materials and light.
The two workshops are held in cooperation with the Kavilia Cooperative, founded in Syros in January 2020.The purpose of the cooperative is, on the one hand, the implementation of local collective actions aimed at the protection and improvement of the natural and residential environment; on the other hand, the organization of educational activities for children and young people, always in the context of synergy with productive, artistic and social initiatives that promote solidarity, economic democracy, social, moral and environmental responsibility and, in general, the promotion of social, ethical and environmental responsibility.
