ECFA SHORTS: COMPILATION ON TOUR

Nine amazing short films, all nominations for the ECFA Short Award 2024, are touring the European children & youth film festivals. A new and exciting short film distribution initiative by ECFA. The compilation contains shorts from Portugal, Czech Republic, France, Switzerland and Germany –animation and live action– all with one thing in common: they were nominated for ECFA’s Best Short Award 2024. Among them the film that was voted as the winner during the Berlinale in February 2024: To be sisters.

Aaaah!

Don, t blow it up

Alžbeta Mačáková Mišejová, Czech Republic, 8’, 2022

Two little girls are playing with a ball. But after a petty quarrel, they get angry with each other and take offense. Their umbrage makes them inflate like balloons, they fly all the way up to the clouds. Girls get stuck up there, with no idea how to get down and save their kitten stuck in the tree.

Ice merchants

João Gonzalez, Portugal-France-UK, 15', 2022

Every day, a father and his son jump with a parachute from their vertiginous cold house, attached to a cliff, to go to the village on the ground, far away where they sell the ice they produce daily.

Pond

Lena von Döhren & Eva Rust, Switzerland, 9', 2023

A shoal of herrings, adopting fantastic formations, roams the vast ocean. When seagulls suddenly attack, one small herring finds itself stranded in a tidal pool. As it searches desperately for a way out, it discovers many other sea creatures here. And now there is no time for fear: only by joining forces can they hope to defend themselves against the hungry seagull.

Princess Aubergine

A king and a queen have almost everything, but something is missing. Desperate as they are, they search for the perfect seed to grow a child, but the only thing flourishing is their garden.

Somni

Sonja Rohleder, Germany, 3’, 2023

The sun sets and the eyes are closing. Rocking from one green leaf to the next, the little monkey glides gently to sleep. Suddenly the world of dreams gets darker, more colorful and wild. Mysterious plants, creatures and shapes line the trajectory through the night. Somni is a cinematic lullaby.

To Be Sisters

The Queen of the Foxes

In the hopes of making their queen smile again, the foxes descend on the city each night to rummage through the humans' trash, searching for all the love letters that were never sent.
