In a housing project on Reunion Island, as the Aïd el-Kebir sacrifice approaches, 12-year-old Ibrahim, of Comoran descent, is bullied by Evan, a neighbor his age, who calls him an animal killer. When Ibrahim learns a goat is being delivered to his building, he decides to save it—but Evan is watching.
Nicolas Séry
Nicolas Séry, born in 1980 to Réunionese parents in Melun, France, returned to Réunion Island where he became passionate about addressing the underrepresentation of Creole language and culture in both Réunion and France. For him, directing Creole-speaking actors is a form of activism. In 2017, he was selected by Talents La Kour, an initiative by Cinékour and CNC’s Talents en Court, where he pitched his short film The Sound of Sugar Cane Flowers (original title Reine Kayanm). He directed the film in November 2020, becoming the first Réunion Island project to be shortlisted for the Label Scenario of La Maison du Film. Supported by Région Réunion, CNC, and France Télévisions – Réunion La 1ère, the film explores the cultural identity of a teenager torn between his roots and modernity.
