What does it mean to “make a film with my class”? How can an entire class—or even a single student, a complete non-professional—create a film, and how good can that film be? What do we mean when we talk about young people’s “voice” and “perspective” through cinema?
We invite you to the Camera Zizanio screenings to explore these and many other questions.
Over 200 short stories and youth-made films by creators of all ages—from kindergarten activities to mature work by film students—will be screened daily at the Prefecture building as part of Camera Zizanio’s program.
These films address young people’s concerns: the environment, inclusion, bullying, the need for acceptance, fake news, and the artificial world of social media. Sometimes joyful and hilariously bold, sometimes serious and politically thoughtful, they are always authentic and handmade.
These works offer food for thought and create a unique opportunity for dialogue both inside and outside the classroom. They provide a representative glimpse into the global production of youth films—but above all, here art becomes empowerment. We hope they will spark the idea and inspiration for you to create your own film and participate in a future Camera Zizanio. Your students can see firsthand what their peers can achieve, often with the simplest tools. It is a powerful invitation to creativity, a living message that says: “I can do it too!” It is both a mirror that reflects their inner world and a window into understanding others.
On Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, the full Greek program will be presented, featuring filmsfrom across the country.
On Monday 1 December, the European and International programs begin with a festive opening, joined by the jury members and all international guests of Camera Zizanio. The Greek films competing in the European section will also be screened during this session.
On Wednesday 3 December, a special screening for our very young kindergarten friends will take place.
For 4th, 5th, and 6th grade primary students we recommend Thursday’s screening (12:00–13:30), featuring subtitled films appropriate for this age group.
From Monday 1 to Friday 5 December, a curated selection of some of the best youth films from Europe and around the world will be screened. These screenings are suitable for junior high schools, high schools, and English-language classes.
During all screenings, young filmmakers from Greece and abroad will be present, and we will discuss their films together.
