Why do so many Africans dream of leaving for Europe? Are they aware of the dangers and the racism? Sunu Gaal follows young people from Senegal trying to choose between staying in a country marked by neo-colonialism, which plunders its resources, or risking a journey to a Europe full of obstacles.

Josep T. París

He is a documentary director, screenwriter, and journalist whose career is dedicated to issues of migration and racism. In 2024, he was awarded the Montserrat Roig Prize for Investigative Journalism for his project on the Barcelona Immigrant Detention Center. In his documentaries, he works in close collaboration with his protagonists to ensure a shared creative process and to portray their lives with dignity. In 2020, he co-directed Mama Congoo, a documentary about the feminist struggle in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in 2018, he directed Minors Far from Home, which examines the arrival of unaccompanied migrant minors. Trained as a screenwriter and playwright, he has received multiple awards. He was a finalist for the Frederic Roda Award with The Silicone Family and, in 2019, won the Ciudad de Manacor Award with Pyromaniacs.
