The Chania Film Festival within its educational programs, has, in recent years, focused on creating documentaries in collaboration with the school communities of Crete. Documentaries that explore human experiences. Documentaries about local history. Documentaries emphasizing oral storytelling.
Teachers, students, and the educational and production team of the Chania Film Festival embark together on a shared journey of discovery into the art of documentary filmmaking as well as elements of local and oral history. A journey full of human stories. Real stories. A journey carried out with consistency and dedication, producing lasting impact within the documentary community.
Through these programs, approximately 140 documentaries have been produced over the last few years. Each one unique. Each one different.
In the past two years, twelve of these documentaries have been selected to form a program block, beginning a creative journey from the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. This journey includes 15–20 annual stops at festivals and other cultural events, both in Greece and internationally, where the films are screened and shared with diverse audiences.
A selection of 12 documentaries, each 10–12 minutes long, created over the past two years as part of the Chania Film Festival’s educational programs by school filmmaking teams from Chania and Rethymno, under the guidance and supervision of the Festival’s educational and creative team.
