On the Invention of the Species

Born in Cuenca, Ecuador, writer and director. She is a graduate of the International Film&TV School (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños (Cuba), where she directed her first short films. Her first feature film, How much further (2006), was an audience success in Ecuador and won several awards, including the Silver Zenith for First Films at the Montreal WFF, and the Coral Award for First Films at the Havana FF. Her second feature film, In the Name of the Girl (2011), won the Alice nella Città in its premiere at the Rome Film Festival and was part of the Official Selection at Cannes Ecran Junior. Tania combines independent filmmaking with university teaching and research on screenwriting. She has pursued complementary studies in Film Aesthetics and Creative Writing, has an MA in Cultural Studies, and is currently a doctoral student at the Faculty of Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid. She’s a Member of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation and has been invited to participate as a key speaker and jury in several film festivals and conferences.
