On November 20, 2012, Andrea Spezzacatena, a boy who had just turned 15, took his own life. It was the first case in Italy of bullying and cyberbullying that led to the suicide of a minor. The triggering incident was his choice to wear a pair of red trousers, a gift from his mother, which turned pink due to a washing mishap. This movie is based on his story.
Margherita Ferri
Margherita Ferri is an Italian director and screenwriter born in Imola in 1984. She studied Communication Sciences at the University of Bologna and spent a year at UCLA's School of Film and Television. She graduated in directing from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. Her debut feature film, Zen in the Ice Rift (2018), premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was supported by the Biennale College Cinema. The film explores themes of adolescence, bullying, and gender identity. As a screenwriter, Ferri co-wrote The Nest (2019), which received a special mention at the Premio Tonino Guerra. Ferri has also directed episodes for the TV series Bang Bang Baby (2022) and Home Sweet Rome (2023), produced by HBO Max, BBC, and RAI. Her work is characterized by an intimate and introspective style, often addressing themes of identity, diversity, and adolescence.
