In a small village in Rojava, northern Syria, the residents have been suffering from a severe water shortage for months. As she does every day, 13-year-old Yarê wakes up and helps her mother with the household chores. They both hold onto the hope that water will arrive that day — but once again, the promised delivery fails to reach their village. Instead of going to school, Yarê decides to set out on her own in search of water.
Sallar Othman
He was born in Al-Hasaka, in Rojava Kurdistan, Northern Syria. There, he founded the theatre group Koma Ararat, where he worked both as an actor and director. With the group, he staged several critical plays opposing the Syrian government, performed publicly in the streets of Al-Hasaka. Due to the war in Syria, Othman fled to Europe, where he began his filmmaking career. He took part in major film productions and attended various filmmaking and screenwriting workshops. During this period, he wrote and directed six short films, two of which were screened at international festivals. For the past two years, he has been working on his debut feature film The Journeywhich is supported by ScriptLAB Fiction and the ÖFI. In 2023, he received a start-up grant from MA7 for his new project We Have a World to Unite.
