Bálint Kenyeres

He is a Hungarian filmmaker born in Budapest in 1976. After studying philosophy, film history, and theory, he graduated as a director from the Budapest Film and Theatre Academy in 2006 and has been a member of the European Film Academy since. He gained international recognition with his short film Closing Time (1999), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won numerous awards at over 30 festivals. His next short, Before Dawn (2005), competed at Cannes, received a jury prize at Sundance, and won the European Film Academy Prix UIP for Best European Short, screening at 140 festivals worldwide. The History of Aviation (2009) premiered at Directors’ Fortnight and was selected for 50 festivals. Kenyeres’ first feature, Yesterday (2018), premiered at Locarno, following a businessman in Morocco confronting his past. His films are known for their exploration of human emotions and societal issues through layered and complex narratives.
