Mighty Afrin: in the time of floods

In the desolate wilderness of the disappearing islands along the Brahmaputra river, 12-year-old orphan Afrin is coming of age. When heavy rainfalls and flood waters ravage Afrin’s island, she refuses to surrender to its deadly tides. Afrin rows herself in a wooden boat toward the teeming metropolis of Dhaka to find her estranged father among the millions of climate refugees. Forced to grow up fast, Afrin must confront the mysteries of a sinking world.
Angelos Rallis
He has a background in Film, Anthropology and Photography. He started his career in theatre and as a director for ERT TV. In 2006 he became an elected member of the International Federation of Journalists and commenced a long term project documenting London’s East End emerging cultures and communities. His visual and artistic approach, in the mode of observational style, resides somewhere between contemplative cinema, theatre and creative documentary with fictional aesthetics.

The director and the producer of the film, Angelos Rallis and Maria del Mar Rodriguez Yebra, will take part in the discussion, as well as representatives of the aforementioned environmental organizations.
