INTERNATIONAL JURIES
FEATURE FILM JURY
Rationale
We as members of the Jury of Feature Films are convinced that film is a powerful instrument
in the development and education of children. Watching films, but also talking about and
working with them afterwards sharpens the power of observation and helps to develop
structural thinking and the ability to differentiate. Watching Films from another cultural
background and dealing with their stylistic quality helps to understand other cultures better,
and watching films together in a protected frame can help children to come out of their
solitude.
However, the most important thing young people learn from watching films and engaging
with them is to draw conclusions from their own observations and to develop an opinion in
the process. When children are encouraged to express their opinions about a film, they
develop independent thoughts and will trust these thoughts more and more.
They also learn
to express themselves in a qualified and confident manner. By watching films and then
discussing them, children are raised to be independent people who can form their own
opinions and are also capable and courageous enough to express them.
At Olympia International Film Festival for children and young people we have found these
requirements excellently executed.
The festival presents a thoroughly selected program of long and short films in different sections for all age groups. Camera Zizanio gives young
people in workshops the opportunity to put their creative ideas into action, guided and
protected by skilled workers from the world of cinema. The section “Activities for Film and
Educational Professionals” provided an interesting platform for us to get into contact with
other cinema workers and share thoughts and discussions with them.
At Olympia Film
Festival the connection with the local audience and international networking are performed
in a wonderful symbiosis.
We want to thank Dimitros Spyrou, Pantelis Panteloglou
and all the organization team for
entrusting us with the jury work at such an outstanding festival,
but also for accommodating, feeding and entertaining us so lovingly.
Our stay at Pyrgos and the festival will be an everlasting good memory for us.

SHORT FICTION FILM JURY
The realization that parents are not all-powerful is one that everyone has to go through at a certain point. For the nine year old protagonist of this film this moment came much too soon and hit her much too hard. In Esra, Luca Meisters has created a great character, both strong and fragile at the same time, realistic and relatable. The jury was extremely impressed by the composition of that unique character, as well as the impressive acting. Female rage is a feeling we do not get to see that often in film, even less in children’s films.

The director skillfully crafted a compelling narrative using a visual storytelling approach, infused with comedy and bitterness.

The movie awakened the (youngest) child within us! It is spontaneous, with a beautiful message, many technical aspects, and a small but very successful cast. It evokes intense emotions, presents in a childlike manner a theme that concerns both the young and the old, sweetly reminding us of our real strengths. We also appreciated the music and the sounds.

American Dream > Renee Shi / USA
It touched our souls! We were impressed that such a small child created such a powerful and remarkable film, only three minutes long but rich in detail and depth, conveying its message in a stunning way. We were won over by the design, the use of colors, the alternation of scenes and emotions, the sound effects, and the culminating music. We were shocked by the list that appears at the end, showing schools and the numbers of children victims of shootings in America.
ΗΛΙΚΙΑ / AGE 17-20
The traveler > Jiahao Zhang / China
Captivating, impressive! A beautiful film, a “plausible” scientific fantasy; the creator crafted an entire universe in an original, imaginative way, with wonderful designs, incredible music, and sound design for a frightening, as it seems, subject: the future of humanity.
