CLIMA2023: THE TIME OF FLOODS

/ CLIMA2023: THE TIME OF FLOODS

The climate crisis is here. Extreme weather events are increasing in number and their consequences are now directed directly against human life. And while there is no visible common policy of the major industrial powers, capable of effectively dealing with this ever-increasing threat to the planet and humanity, public opinion, preoccupied with the current issues that concern it (economic difficulties, pandemic, war, etc.), appears to be only occasionally concerned about the climate, mainly during periods of unusual weather events.

With the goal to contribute in raising awareness about environmental issues, especially among young people who are its main audience, Olympia Festival includes every year in Kids&Docs competition selection several films that have climate change and the environmental crisis at the center of their concern. In this year's selection, the most characteristic titles are the following:

Μαντουλού, ο θαλασσόλυκος / Madulu, The Seaman
Akley Olton, Άγιος Βικέντιος και Γρεναδίνες / Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, 23′, 2022
Mighty Afrin: in the time of floods
Angelos Rallis, Ελλάδα-Γαλλία-Γερμανία / Greece-France-Germany, 92′, 2023
Planet B
Pieter van Eecke, Ολλανδία-Βέλγιο / Netherlands-Belgium, 74′, 2023
Λευκό χορτάρι / White Grass
Justin Kim WooSŏk, Μογγολία-ΗΠΑ / Mongolia-USA, 16′, 2023

As part of the Clima2023 tribute, Olympia Festival, in collaboration with Archelon (Association for the Protection of the Sea Turtle),, Environmental Action of Ilia and the Naturalistic and Cultural Association of Ancient Olympia, is organizing a discussion on the climate crisis and its effects, as well as the need to activate citizens to protect the planet. It will be preceded by the screening of the documentary Mighty Afrin: In the time of floods.. The director and the producer of the film, Angelos Rallis and Maria del Mar Rodriguez Yebra, will take part in the discussion, as well as representatives of the aforementioned environmental organizations.
